The Cart at the Crossroads began years ago as an outlet for the continuation of historic folk magic practices of our Scottish, English, and North American ancestors, and has traveled across both the United States and the United Kingdom in its time. While the traveling will continue to a lesser degree, the Cart is also putting its roots back down in its Appalachian birthplace, North Carolina. With a more permanent presence and location comes an opportunity to fulfill the other side of the Cart’s purpose.
Crossroad Reliquary, coming in late 2023, is the community focused side of The Cart at the Crossroads, and seeks to establish physical space and resource for the pagan community of North Carolina through four main areas of work.
COMMUNITY: a physical meeting space for the pagan community of central North Carolina and beyond. Multi-use and focused on being an inviting and comfortable space that can be accessed by both individuals and groups, especially in the interest of community based events such as public circle/ritual, clothing and food drives, non-profit events and meetings, religious occasions, and more.
ACTION: Crossroad Reliquary seeks to encourage an active role in upholding personal rights, which are often found under threat among the members of the pagan community. Crossroad Reliquary partners and supports activism through various other organizations as well as our own individual community member’s fights for rights through volunteer work and community engagement.
EDUCATION: the best weapon the pagan community can wield against oppression is education. In addition to classes and workshops relating to Folk Magic, Witchcraft, and Hoodoo, Crossroad Reliquary organizes classes for the community to learn about local support groups and efforts, legal rights, inclusion and diversity, and more.
RESOURCE: knowing who can help in a multitude of different areas can mean the difference between surviving and thriving. Crossroad Reliquary is a hub of information for the pagan community regarding public support organizations, poverty alleviation programs, mental and physical health services, and pagan friendly employers and professionals.
